The graphics of Infiltrada en el Búnker, restrained by design

A documentary thriller about a two-year undercover operation inside an animal-testing laboratory. We worked on its graphic universe: inserts, captions and maps that hold the tension.

Sound familiar?

If any of these lines sounds like you, this project is about you.

  1. Your story is a hard one, and the titles, captions and maps have to support it without stealing the scene.
  2. You have footage from very different sources and need it to feel like one film.
  3. Dates, places and sources need to be clear, without cluttering the screen.
  4. You’re a production company looking for a graphics studio that knows when not to be noticed.

That’s where Infiltrada en el Búnker came in.

A brave, difficult story

Infiltrada en el Búnker (“Undercover in the Bunker”) is a documentary thriller that exposes the hidden practices of an animal-testing laboratory through Carlota Saorsa (not her real name), who spent two years undercover to show what went on inside.

Isla Studio worked on its graphic universe: visual inserts and graphic elements that follow the narrative and reinforce its tension, atmosphere and emotional weight. We started from moodboards and settled the final style with textures, palettes and devices that convey investigation, infiltration and coldness, without sensationalising the violence and keeping Carlota’s story at the centre.

How we told it

Black background with grain, white type on torn tape, cold tones, maps with red markings and sentences recreated on heavily textured paper.

  1. Still from the documentary: a woman sleeps in a bed at night, with the caption “Día 154” (Day 154) in the centre and a small line of text beneath it
    01Día 154 [Day 154]

Counting time with a big number

A big number and a short line tell you which day of the undercover operation we are on and what comes next, over an everyday shot at night. The image stays in the background and the caption reads first.

  2. Still from the documentary: the title “Infiltrada en el Búnker” in white letters on a torn strip of tape, against a grainy black background

    A title with texture

White letters on torn tape over a grainy black background. The same tape returns in the captions that set places and dates.

  3. Still from the documentary: the word “reducción” (reduction) underlined in highlighter yellow on a grey, heavily grained printed page
    03reducción [reduction]

    Sentences, recreated on paper

We recreated the documentary’s statements as printed paper, with heavy texture and grain, and the word that matters underlined in yellow.

  4. Still from the documentary: satellite view of an industrial estate with a red circle over a building and a place name on a black strip of tape

A map that marks the place

Satellite view with a red circle around a building. The place name sits on a black strip, in white condensed type.
