Post-production and VFX services
Nobody notices. That’s the effect.
What the shot is missing gets added, and what it doesn’t need disappears without a trace. Compositing, tracking, clean-up and integrated graphics for brand films, campaigns and cultural projects, with the same team that does the motion graphics and the 3D.
Who we’ve worked with
In short
What is post-production?
Post-production is everything done to a video after the shoot: editing, visual effects (VFX), retouching, colour, graphics and sound. VFX are images created or altered on a computer and integrated into filmed footage, such as a background, a 3D object or removing something that shouldn’t be there.
At Isla Studio we focus on compositing, tracking, clean-up and integrating graphics and 3D into brand films, campaigns and cultural projects.
What post-production can do
More than most people think, and better if we talk before the shoot. Three real projects.
01Turning a painting into a space
For the 25th anniversary of the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza and for Fundación BBK: paintings rebuilt as 3D simulations you can move through like a space. The museum’s social media campaign passed 300,000 views.

02Turning a performance into a work of art
For Fundación Mapfre, the film for its Paolo Gasparini and Pérez Siquier exhibition: their photographs fused with the flamenco of dancer Paco Hidalgo.

03A trailer with the atmosphere of the stage
The trailer for “Todas las cosas del mundo” (All the Things in the World), by Colectivo Armadillo, for Teatros del Canal: the play told through its lighting, its projections and its rhythm.

What we do in post-production
The techniques brand work asks for most. If your project needs something that isn’t here, ask us.
Compositing (VFX)
Adding what wasn’t in the shot: backgrounds, objects, 3D or graphics, with the right light and shadow.
Tracking
Following the movement of the camera or an object so whatever we add stays locked to the shot.
Retouching and clean-up
Removing what’s in the way: cables, marks, reflections or anything that shouldn’t be seen.
Rotoscoping
Cutting out a person or object by hand, frame by frame, to separate it from the background when there was no green screen.
Graphics integration
Captions, data and graphics that live inside the shot, not stuck on top of it.
How we work
If the project involves visual effects, ideally we talk before the shoot. If it’s already been filmed, we start from the footage.
Start with the briefStep 1: Footage review
We look at the script, the planned shoot or the footage already filmed, and what each shot needs to achieve.
You getWhat can be done, how, and a proposal with a quote
Step 2: Shoot prep
If it hasn’t been filmed yet: tracking markers, backgrounds, lighting references and whatever else it takes for clean post-production.
You getWhat needs preparing on set
Step 3: Compositing and clean-up
Shot by shot: compositing, tracking, rotoscoping, clean-up and integrating graphics and 3D.
You getThe shots to review
Step 4: Finishing
Final tweaks, sound and versions.

Frequently asked questions
What is rotoscoping?
Rotoscoping is the technique of cutting out a person or object from a video by hand, frame by frame, to separate it from the background. It’s used when the footage wasn’t shot on green screen, to change or clean up the background, to apply an effect to just part of the shot or to place elements behind someone. Some tools help, but tricky edges, like hair or fast movement, still need work by hand.
What’s the difference between VFX and special effects?
Special effects (SFX) happen on set, in front of the camera: smoke, rain, make-up or controlled explosions. Visual effects (VFX) are added afterwards, on a computer: compositing, backgrounds, 3D objects or clean-up. Most pieces combine both, and the sooner you decide what goes on which side, the better the result.
Is it better to fix it on set or in post-production?
It almost always comes out better and cheaper to prepare it on set: tracking markers, clean backgrounds, lighting references. That’s why, if the project will involve visual effects, it pays to talk before the shoot. If it’s already been filmed, we review the footage and tell you what can and can’t be done.
How much does video post-production cost?
It depends on how many shots need work and how much work each one takes: cleaning up a locked-off shot is not the same as placing a 3D object into a moving camera. Send us the footage, or a sample, and we’ll put together a proposal with a quote.
Do you work with footage shot by another production company?
Yes. We review the footage, tell you what can be done with it and work with the formats, schedules and review process of the production company or agency.
