Who Juan is
Juan Perno is co-founder of Isla Studio and its audiovisual production director. He has a degree in Philosophy from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a PhD in Fine Arts (aesthetics, photography and video) from the Universitat Politècnica de València, and has spent more than twenty years across advertising, audiovisual production and cultural management.
He started out in live cinema and VJing with the VJSpain community, and has taught real-time video and live cinema. He worked at Saatchi & Saatchi in Milan and was creative director at Mosaicoon in Palermo, with clients such as Microsoft, Tommy Hilfiger, Electrolux and Planeta: four years of digital advertising in Italy.
He then founded the creative platform Dromocromo (2012–2016), where he was already working with Oze Tajada and Jorge Ruiz, and was creative and video director at Yondbee (2016–2019), for Fundación Mapfre, Instituto de Empresa and Reebok. Between 2011 and 2021 he directed, edited and produced on his own for Repsol, Fundación Mapfre, Decathlon, Energizer and Vodafone.
As an artist, he created “Elpid'arc” with the choreographer Elpida Orfanidou: a film-performance based on Dreyer’s “The Passion of Joan of Arc”, backed by a Hauptstadtkulturfonds grant from Berlin and co-produced by HAU Berlin and the Onassis Foundation. It has been shown in Berlin, Athens, Reims and at La Casa Encendida.
As a cultural producer, he organised the De Salonnières festival at La Casa Encendida (2016), produced the Perseids night for Veranos de la Villa (2017) with the Madrid Planetarium, and co-created with Jorge Ruiz the performance that closed the Ciudad Bailar festival at Matadero Madrid (2018).
