An artist, a roll of paper and Bill Brandt’s photographs

A black-and-white photography exhibition, a gallery and an artist with a roll of paper. We filmed Nicolás Villamizar’s performance at the Bill Brandt exhibition and turned it into a video.

That’s where Fundación Mapfre came in.

A performance inside the exhibition

Fundación Mapfre had a Bill Brandt photography exhibition and an artist, Nicolás Villamizar, who was going to stage a performance in it. We had to build a promotional video out of that.

The performance takes place inside the gallery, among the hanging photographs. It had to be shot so that the artist, the paper and the works shared the frame.

How we told it

Shot in the gallery itself: soft light, angles at floor level and from above, and the colour of the paint as the only accent.

    The first stroke, at floor level

    The camera drops to the height of the brush. The first blue stroke is visible in full, with the paint pots lined up alongside and the paper still almost blank.
