The trailer for a show that refuses to be classified

A show by six creators that mixes music, projected image and bodies, and refuses to be classified. We made the trailer for Todas las cosas del mundo (“All the Things in the World”) for Teatros del Canal.

Todas las cosas del mundoCorporate video

Sound familiar?

If any of these lines sounds like you, this project is about you.

  1. You programme a show that looks like nothing else, and it’s hard to sum up in a sentence.
  2. Audiences decide in seconds, and the trailer has to make them want it without explaining everything.
  3. The show mixes music, projected image and bodies, and all of that has to fit into a trailer.
  4. And it has to look like the show, not like a generic theatre ad.

That’s where Teatros del Canal came in.

A show that’s hard to classify

Todas las cosas del mundo is a work by Colectivo Armadillo, a group of diverse creators made up of Carlos Rod, Pilar Campos, Óscar G. Villegas, Luciana Pereyra, Raúl Marcos and Jesús Barranco. Since 2005 they have made interdisciplinary work together that is hard to fit under a single label.

Their way of looking at the live arts is always in search of a new angle. This show, instead of taking the part for the whole as art usually does, accumulates: it wants to take in everything. From that material we made the trailer for Teatros del Canal.

How we told it

A dark stage, spotlights, vivid projections and people with their faces covered.

  1. Still from the video: a long-haired man, in profile, moves a hand over a modular synthesiser with patch cables, on a dark stage with a blurred light behind
    01

    The music, on stage

The trailer doesn’t stay with the visual: it shows whoever plays the music on the stage itself, with their cables and their desk. The dark room puts all the focus on the gesture.

  2. Still from the video: the silhouette of a person with a paper bag over their head in front of a projection of fluorescent green strokes, with one hand raised towards the image
    02

    A silhouette against the projection

Backlighting turns the person into a silhouette and lets the green projection fill the frame. You see how body and image blend on stage.

  3. Still from the video: in the foreground, a person dressed in black with their face covered by a pale cloth, and brightly lit hands touching a glowing object
    03

    Face covered, hands exposed

A close-up of the covered face and the lit hands. The light shows only what’s needed: the hidden face and the gesture of the hands.
