Fitting snow chains when the snow catches you out, step by step
When snow takes you by surprise, you need to know what to do before fitting the chains. Fundación Mapfre wanted to explain it simply, for fabric or metal chains, in an animated video.

Sound familiar?
If any of these lines sounds like you, this project is about you.
- Your message has steps and the order matters: if the first one fails, the rest are no use.
- Whoever needs it will need it at a bad moment, and nobody sits down to read a manual.
- You have to explain something very practical without it feeling like an instruction book.
- There’s news, such as a new signalling device, that’s worth telling at the same time.
That’s where Fundación Mapfre came in.
What to do when snow surprises you
The steps for fitting chains start before you touch them. First, find a safe place to stop and put on the high-visibility vest before getting out of the vehicle. Then mark your position with the warning triangle or with V-16 magnetic lights.
Only then do you fit the chains, and it doesn’t matter whether they’re fabric or metal: the instructions work for both. The piece is called “Chains and tyres” and, besides chains, shows winter tyres and all-season tyres on screen.
How we told it
Illustration with a pencil texture and flat colours in turquoise, yellow and pink, with simple characters.

01 Snow comes in through the garage door
The garage door lifts to reveal a snowy mountain: the situation is clear without explaining it.

02 NEUMÁTICOS INVIERNO [WINTER TYRES]
A shop to choose from
The two shelves, with winter tyres and chains, show both options at once. The warning triangles are already in the set.

03 A magnifying glass on the wheel
A dashed-line box magnifies the wheel on the snow and shows the tread of the tyre against the ground.

04 ALL SEASON
Four seasons, one tyre
A panel brings the seasons together in four colour bands and a wheel on an arrow: what all season means is clear from one image.
