EPSA’s manuals, organised and always to hand

A global earthmoving company with manuals, procedures and corporate documents that had to be accessible, organised and up to date. We designed and laid them out, including as interactive PDFs.

Sound familiar?

If any of these sound like you, this project is about you.

  1. You have manuals, procedures and policies scattered across versions and you’re not sure which is the latest.
  2. What your technical team writes is correct, but hard to read.
  3. Your documents are read more on a tablet than on paper.
  4. They’re used by people in other countries and other trades, and everyone has to understand them.

That’s where EPSA came in.

Keeping the important information always to hand

EPSA is a global earthmoving company. The brief was to take all its corporate documents, procedures and manuals digital, redesigned and laid out afresh, so that the important information would always be to hand, organised and up to date. The project is called “Moviendo la Tierra hacia un futuro mejor” (Moving the Earth towards a better future).

Interactive PDFs, designed to be read on screen, came on top. The rule was to summarise: images, illustrations and editorial design so that every document can be understood and used without effort.

How we solved it

EPSA’s yellow and blue, hexagons as a system, full-bleed site photography and line pictograms.

  1. Four EPSA manual covers, each a different colour: “Critical Risk Protocols” in yellow, “Manual para mecánicos” (mechanics’ manual) in blue-grey, “Operación con dumpers” (dumper operation) in navy and “Buenas prácticas medioambientales” (environmental good practice) in green, each with a site photo and a hexagon reading “ES”

    Each manual, its own colour

Four manuals from one family: the same white frame with the logo, a colour band for each topic and a full-bleed site photo. A hexagon in the corner shows the language.

  2. A tablet shows two pages of an EPSA manual, pages 16 and 17 of 47, with yellow headings, numbered steps and pictograms

    Procedures you read on screen

A long procedure is split into numbered sections, with steps that carry their own number and line pictogram. That makes it easy to follow on a tablet.

  3. A computer monitor shows the sheet “ICONOS EPSA” (EPSA icons): a grid of line pictograms of trucks, helmets, cranes, signs and tools

A family of icons drawn with the same stroke

Trucks, helmets, cranes, stop and recycling signs, all drawn with the same line. Gathered on one sheet, they are the shared vocabulary of the documents.

  4. A poster on a concrete wall: a worker in a yellow helmet beside the track of a machine, the title “Normas por la vida” (Rules for life) and ten numbered rules, each with an icon, on a blue background
04Normas por la vida [Rules for life]

The same rules, on a poster too

Ten numbered rules, each with its icon, on a large-format poster with a site photo. In the “Rules for Life” document, the same ten appear in English.
